Where there's a will, there is always a way! All of us have a goal in life, however, this goal is only achieved by people who have strong willpower and work hard with dedication, and George is a great example of strength to start all over again despite the hard circumstances.
Going back to the pre-war period, he used to live with his family in their village "Al-Qaryaten" and he was responsible for running the family's tile factory. By 2015, this village was attacked by armed groups and his family had to leave everything behind and escape; today, George lives with his mother in Fairouza village after losing their house and source of livelihood.
Unfortunately, at the same time, George started to suffer from a rare eye condition and he was diagnosed with RP, which makes cells in the retina break down slowly causing blindness.
Losing his vision didn’t stop him from taking care of his old mother who has no one but him, he decided to start a project that would ensure them a decent life without needing any help. In 2018, he bought a wood shaving machine that is safe to use and suitable for his health condition, while on the other hand, there is a great demand for such material, especially for the poultry farms in rural areas.
This project was very successful and helped George and his mother to live in dignity, but during the last few years, it was threatened by the severe lack of electricity, which decreased its productivity.
George needed to secure a sustainable power supply for his workshop and that’s why he applied to the Micro Projects Program. This initiative saved his life project and guaranteed that George and his mother will live properly.
