Our primary interest is aiding Christians through financing their own micro-projects that would provide them with income to preserve their dignity and alleviate the calamities of the crisis.

The team at Hope Center reviews and evaluates the projects and the extent to which the applicant has planned for his/her idea. If accepted, the center starts providing funds for the project to initiate.

Besides aiding Christians in need, this initiative aims for reviving the city of Aleppo that has lost most of its economic structure.

Target Computer Center

Bassel and his brother, Eli, own a store for selling computer hardware and maintenance. During the crisis, the shop was substantially damaged by the fighting because of many shells that fell in its area, the shop was not closed however because they did not want to lose their customers. The income was tiny, and the families had no other resources. They were no longer capable of providing the shop with required equipment and products. The shop is the sole source of income for Eli with his family, Bassel who’s currently engaged and about to be married, and their mother. They applied for this grant to purchase products and required equipment for the store.

Glass Painting Tools and Handmade Crafts.

“I love painting and I used to teach it in a school until the war happened, the area which the school was located at became very dangerous so they shut it down and I was unemployed, now I work in the church’s library but I am still passionate about hand crafting and glass painting but I need special tools and colors in order to make things that I can sell and make a good income, especially that I have a health condition ( I live with only one lung) that limits my movement and the effort I make before I feel tired so this job is perfect for me and with the help of this initiative I will be able to make living on my own without risking my health.”

Barber's Shop

The shop is in the Jabrye area, it was shut down for 4 years during war, there was a sniper in this area. The place now needs repairing and maintenance; the equipment is old and outdated and some of it was robbed because the glass frontal shattered so it was easy to break in and steal the stuff. “sometimes I go to open the shop then bombs and missiles fall nearby so I run out of the shop quickly. My wife was injured in her left hand by a mortar shell that fell on our house, I have three daughters all still in school” The wife is trying to find a job and the church is helping with the school payments. This shop can change this family’s life and give hope for a brighter future.

Plumbing Shop

‘I rented the shop and I used to pay monthly payments, I have some equipment and my brother works with me, I used to work before the war in the goldsmithing business but due to a neurological disease, I was unable to continue in this work field that requires accuracy. I live with my mother, my sister, in addition to my brother and his wife and three children, so we are 8 people in the same house. My mother also has neurotic disease, my brother had a shop in Sheikh-Maksoud that was robbed and ruined, now he’s living off the church’s help “the Family to Family financial help was like a Christmas gift in the time of war” We need a fresh start after all these hardships and this might be exactly the help we need to start over.’

New Hair

A center for implementing hair wigs with the suitable equipment for medical cases such as early balding and cancer patients. The center is in Slemanye area which was damaged greatly during war time, that made the business slower, customers were afraid to come to this area and the shop was partly ruined by bombs. Due to the lack of income and incapability of buying new materials with high costs, the shop gradually became neglected and was unfit anymore for procedures of cutting hair and wig installation, the health department sent few warnings about renovation issues. The shop provides livelihood income for 3 families, also it helps the cancer recovering patients to feel good about themselves and have their self-esteem back.

Jeans-Denim Workshop.

I had a shop in Sheikh-Maksoud but after 15 days from the entrance of the armed troops we left it, and I knew then it was lost, my two brothers are now living in Lebanon and they are wanted for military service. Now I live in this rented house, I’m the only provider for the family. My passion is tailoring, I have loyal customers and my brother is working with me. The church helps us with the rent and part of the livelihood expenses, but we need to start depending on ourselves and start working again to recover the country’s industrial force.

Caoutchouc Compressors.

We suffered a lot during wartime, my house was in Bustan al-Basha area, I used to work in the industrial scales and when the armed troops went in we were displaced and we rented a house in the relatively safe areas. I learned later that my house was fully ruined, I had to work in anything just to provide some income for my family, I sold vegetables on the streets then I found a job in the rubber molds and compressors industry which I had to learn. Now I want with the help of this initiative to open a workshop and buy some equipment and that’s way I can start a new life with a big hope for the future and to increase my income to secure a good life for my family. My message for the Christians abroad is “God bless you and give you the strength”

Goldsmithing Kit

Fadi and his two brothers had a goldsmithing workshop before the crisis. When the war began they sold their equipment to provide for their livelihood costs. “We also did not know if we’re going to stay here or what was going to happen”. Fadi then started working in another goldsmithing workshop, and his wife worked as a makeup artist between houses, “she didn’t get that much work”. The Orthodox Social Service helps them with a monthly aid. One of his brothers is also married and the other is recruited in the military since 7 and a half years. “Our situation was very good before the war, we were comfortable”. Fadi applied at Hope Center to buy equipment for his workshop and to start his old business again.

Makeup Kit
