Rania Sekareih, who is a 48-year-old woman, married with three children, is the true example of women’s power in Syria.
Rania plays many roles in her kids’ lives, the mother, the father, the tutor, and sometimes the friend. Her son, George is in the third year of architecture engineering college; he works after college to afford the expenses of his study, his mother is his biggest supporter. Her daughters Rozet and Jessica are still in school and need a lot of care, attention, and money till they finish their schooling.
After three years of the Syrian war Rania’s husband lost his job, which put the family in a bad financial situation. Thus, she decided to attend hairdressing and make-up courses at the DRC center in Jaramana, where they gave her some tools as she completed the course to enable her to start her own job. However, Rania’s financial situation was very critical so she couldn’t have her own salon which forced her to go to the customers’ houses to do their hair or makeup.
Day after day, under shells, rain, storms, or heat Rania went from house to house, defying life's hardships in order to afford the basic needs of her family as she became the only provider of the house. Her main concern at the end of the day was securing food on the table and proper education for her children. She tried many times to work from home, but the electricity situation in the city made that possibility unrealizable.
Rania visited the center with all hope, asking for support with the necessary equipment that will enable her to work at home and look after her children at the same time, the micro initiative will nourish that hope to make a difference in this family’s life.
