Rally of Thought

Jesuits Scout

From 19 To 22 April 2018

About this project

Rally of Thought is a project created and directed by Jesuits scout in Aleppo since 1999. It is a cultural competition between all the Christian Scout groups in Aleppo (this year 13 groups have participated), it is held annually 4 straight days for all the main 4 age groups (each age group together). The competition is a game, played by the teams (each age has a team of 6 members) from all Christian Scout groups in front of an audience (around 500person daily) in a big theater. All that, in an exciting atmosphere where all the groups cheer for their teams, and they can hear and read the questions being asked on two big screens, or on their mobile phones on a wireless network.

Participants

Between 2000 and 2300 people aged from 9 to 23

How the donation was used

The donation was used to cover the costs of: theater rent, generator (due to shortage of electric power in Aleppo), surrounding system rent, promoting materials, hardware equipment and wireless network access points and cables, printings, snacks for audience, transportation…etc.

The impact on the community

Rally’s main purpose is to disseminate knowledge and the love of pursuit for the information and encourage the youth scouts to use the internet for a good use like searching for information in all kinds of categories (science, history, religion, art, geography, literature, sport…). The competitors from all ages and the audience interacted with the questions. Also, this Rally created an environment of healthy competition between all Scout groups, and knowledge has been spread.

Success stories

Elias, a father of three children (2 girls and a boy) expressed his happiness, his girls were members of two teams, as he said they have learned a lot from the questions in the Rally and from the 2 weeks preparing period before the event was held. That made the small boy interested in knowledge in order to help his sisters and support them. Toni, a leader in another scout Group, said that the feeling he experienced when he held the trophy celebrating the first place with his team mates was wonderful, after a month of preparing and working together.

Challenges that faced this project

The shortage in number of scout leaders because of immigration, the loss of our local scout building because it got damaged by war (St. Vartan church in Medan Street) We learned that we should be working harder every year, because the Rally became a main anticipation for the Christian youths in Aleppo.
