About this project

A chess club for Christian families. There exist trainers and the salle is open for practice. The salle was open before the war but was closed during the fighting.

The impact on the community

The kids very much appreciated the fact that there’s a place for playing and practicing chess. An opportunity to play and practice a game of cultural background and requires intelligence was given to admirers of such activities.

Participants

We began with 7 children and the number increased to 70-100 players’ boys and girls. Ages span from 6 to 23 years old.

Success stories

Mike kevoyan: “I’m 12 years old, I was from the first 5 students who came back to playing the game in the club after the war. I have been playing chess in the last one year and I won a medal in a contest in Latakia which was held last week on the 29th of June. I participated in the school’s pioneers and won the second place in Aleppo, I’m very happy about the new place”
Gerayr karabetyan: “I’m 19 years old, I coach kids in the East school and I’m also the head of committee in the Yarmouk Chess Club, the number of trainee reached 100”.I love chess and I’ve been practicing it for 9 years, it’s an art penetrating in the Armenian culture. We are very happy about the new place, it’s vast and tidy but we need more stuff like an LCD screen, a timer clock and a laptop to enhance the exercises and trainings”
Abraham Jamil Afnyan: “I’m 14 years old, I have been playing the game for 9 years and I stopped during the war and because there wasn’t a place available for playing chess, and I am delighted to be in this new place to practice the game that I love”
Shant Abrahmyan: ” I’m 10 years old, I only started to play a year ago, I won a medal in a contest for the Yarmouk Club between the districts which was held in Latakia”
Seboh kajajyan: “I’m 40 years old, I’m a coach and a member of a technical committee of chess in Aleppo, I’m also responsible of the training centers, this place is so much better for playing the game. This game is important and we are glad about the Saint Nicholas’s support, the former place was shared with other groups and that affected us and our belongings. The place here is an attraction point for the game and it has a big influence on the children, we hope to highlight and raise attention about this game and to have some extra equipment”
